-EARN EXTRA MONEY!
-Welcome to your future.
-A real opportunity!
-Looking for a few good people.
One read - “Don't miss the boat!” it was for cruise ship
company looking for cooks, waiters, and house-keepers. The postings offer
financial security, or a sense of purpose, or the promise of fulfillment.
There is a calling that is a standing offer for
every disciple.
God is seeking people who will take up His invitation to become
one of those who work to 'make a Kingdom difference' in the world.
There is a position for YOU in the Church, where you can work alongside of
millions of others, with the aim of changing the world.
Being a world-changer does not mean that we have prominence on a
stage from which we speak to millions. It does not require us to hold an office
in the government. We do not need Bill Gates’ $billions. We start where we are,
doing what we can do, being diligent to serve in a way that uses the spiritual
gifts that God provides to us today. We see God-given opportunities to make the
world better in our corner of it.
I say it often, but it bears repetition - God's call to
service is not just for those who would become pastors or church workers.
How can you work for Him today?
He may use you …
-to speak wisdom to a confused person.
-to extend comfort to a broken heart.
-to speak an encouraging word to someone who needs to be nudged
back to the right road.
-to be a servant who provides critical help to someone burdened
down by life.
-to reflect His majesty by creatively helping your work group to
achieve greater things.
-to build bridges between people who are divided
-to give resources to His ministry.
-to pray protection around someone who is weak.
Are you starting to grasp the concept?
God's only requirement is a willing heart that accepts His
commission. And, whatever His purpose for us, God promises to make us competent
by His Spirit's work.
Someone said, “God is not seeking ability, He is looking
for availability!”
When He calls, He equips. Peter writes, "As we know
Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly
life. He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness!" (2
Peter 1:3, NLT)
Peter knew this divine experience first-hand. A man without
formal education, who grew up in a rough world of fishermen, had become the
leader of the Christian movement, traveling thousands of miles, speaking to all
who would listen. It had started in Jerusalem, where this fisherman and
his friends found notoriety. Arrested for preaching the Gospel, when they came
before the leaders in the council of those who were rich and powerful, they
were not afraid. And here's what was said of them - "When they saw the
courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,
they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with
Jesus." (Acts 4:13, NIV) The ability to be a world-changer comes from
the Presence of Jesus in us. A couple of decades later, in the city of
Thessalonica, another group of people observed two men who were faithful to
Christ's call and they said of them- “Paul and Silas have turned the rest of
the world upside down, and now they are here disturbing our city!” (Acts
17:6, NLT)
It's Monday! A new week – Are you ready to engage?
Let's go and change the world!
Our word from the Word is a challenge Jesus gave to his friends
about opportunities. "You know the saying, ‘Four months between
planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields
are already ripe for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit
they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the
planter and the harvester alike! You know the saying, ‘One plants and another
harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others
had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”
(John 4:35-38, NLT)
